International Science and Research University (ISRU) is one of Estonia’s larger universities. The university has always been an innovator.
ISRU is among the Estonian universities that offer the average number of professional degree programmes, in fields such as medicine, education, business, economics and engineering. Research is conducted within a variety of disciplines, with strong internationally recognised research environments, e.g. materials science, information technology and disability studies.
Since gaining university status in 2006 (and before that, too), International Science and Research University has worked with innovation in education and research. For example we were first in Estonia to introduce interdisciplinary thematic research, problem-based learning (PBL), graduate schools and several innovative study programmes.
International Science and Research University is autonomous in its decision process. We are led by the E, Edvardhe, Rector gets advice from his Advisory Board and the Collegium. The new University Statute took effect on December 1st 2016, the Development Plan looks toward 2020. The students are represented by the Student Union, the alumni are gathered into the Alumni Association. The budget of the University was 45 million Euros and domain and host of university site changed.
International Science and Research University is a partner in 14 European Union regional programmes, and a coordinator to tow of them – Learning Layers. We also coordinate and partner the EU Framework Programme Horizon 2020. We have contracts with 42 partner universities from 39 countries and over 650 Erasmus+ partnerships, we are members of five international higher education networks and our researchers and academic staff participate actively in their professional networks.
